RE: HWH Hydraulic Leveling System - Fifth Wheel???

RV'n is like an addiction - those with the most toys and gadgets on their rig wins! As you can see from Britt's rig, he's well ahead of most of us. :) The reason I asked about the jacks lifting the tires off the ground is two fold; I purchased a 20ton bottle jack from a hardware store and i could barely get the tire off the ground enough to polish the rims. I even changed the hydraulic fluid to make sure. They just don't make a good jack these days I guess. I opted for the chrome rims instead of the bathroom mirror option. Shaving is a bit of a pain but shiny wheels are great! The other issue is storing the rig in the winter and getting the tires off the unit and out of the weather. I priced Goodyear 17.5 H's and they are about $400 each. A thought was I could easily take the tires off in the winter and put the rig on blocks. Sounds like I have some catching up to you guys and your fancy hydraulic lift kits. :) Paul you could always shave using those shiny wheels as a mirror. Id imagine it would be like shaving in a fun house mirror.

RE: Ultra-Fab Strongarm Stabilizers vs. JT Strongarm

We've got the ultra fabs and they work great, like was already stated they are a clone of the JT's.

RE: Towing swivel trailer behind 5vr

12ryders picture shows a 2 wheel trailer setup with 2 ball hook up which is a double tow combo. Tripple tow is 3 trailers. There was one poster that had a single swivel wheel factory built trailer that permantly attached the RV rear frame that articulated up and down. With no ball/no pintal/no 5er pin I wonder how its classified legally. Jim I believe that would be classified as a tag axle, part of the trailer towing it but subject to the highway tolls of an extra axle.

RE: Cool!, hurry up before diesel prices kill it

I love my current duramax but I wouldnt even think of one of these till after the first 2 years of production, way too many new concepts being tried here. Someone else can be the discouraged guinea pig sitting in the dealership service dept waiting room.

RE: 2006 Chevy Diesel Update: It's Mine *pic*

I think you did good, got the same rig and wouldnt think of trading it for one of the new emission control equipped diesels. As a read thru this thread I also find it hard to believe someone paid $30k for a new truck that stickered for $52k.

RE: Which is better?....Jayco Eagle or Montana (qualitywise)

as has been noted in a prior post, there are many folks out there who are own and enjoy their Montana campers .... my problem with them is the warranty period and the fact that they use press board in their construction .... Jayco is a far better company and you won't find any press board in either of their Eagle or Designer lines .... of the two, I'd go with a Jayco .... one additional note, their Eagle line is not their entry level unit, it is their mid level line .... the Eagle Light (known until recently as their JayFeather line) is their entry level unit Jim I have heard this mentioned many times, please explain why press board is inferior to whatever else they are using, and I would guess it is plywood ???? Both plywood and osb are held together with glue. The montana may use pressboard but its one continuous piece for the whole floor. No soggy joints to worry about.

RE: MSRP Question

when we bought our Montana I found 6 different dealers with 6 different MSRP's for the exact same unit and there was $6,700 difference between the high and the low, all located in the same region of the US. We eneded up buying for just under 35% off of the lowest MSRP at a local dealer.

RE: Replacement Awning Fabric

Id like to find a good place for the cloth looking acrylic awning fabric to replace the vinyl. My buddy has it on his motorhome and I like it.

RE: Toilet Burping

When the tanks is nearly full Ive found that running the overhead vent fan with the bathroom door closed will sometimes make the toilet burp when flushed, the burping doesnt bother me as much as the stink that comes with it.

RE: Montana vs Mountaineer

We love our 2007 Mountaneer 307 RKD, trouble free and all the amenities we wanted at a great price. We're glad we bought when we did as they've made the rig smaller and taken away some valuable storage with the new units of the same floorplan.

RE: 2008 jetta diesel fuel mpg !!

a co workers 99 TDI jetta is getting better than 40 but Id say in 2008, 60mpg out of one of these is still a dream.

RE: DO ANY OTHER GMC 6.0 LITER GAS ENGINES HAVE THIS PROBLEM

I had a kid at a taco bell drive thru tell me I needed to add oil to my brand new avalanche in 2002 cause it rattled so bad, I traded it with 25k on it. Piston slap is and has been an issue with GM's since they replaced the 350 and 454.

RE: Problems with Montana RV

If I were a newb looking to buy a 5th wheel and I read any of these RV forums looking to find a quality rig I think Id end up giving up and staying in hotels. The basic feeling you get is theyre all junk. Fact of the matter is one needs to guage their tolerance for build quality issues when compared to standards of the general non RVing public. If youre a picky person, odds are RVing is going to test your nerves.

RE: This seem normal for 13.5K A/C in 5er?

Our 13.5K btu ac for our 30' 5er has always kept the temps great in 90F+. We've been to Myrtle beach 3 times at the end of August when it has been very hot and humid and the ac simply cycles on and off maintaining the trailer in the 70-72F range. Thats outstanding, almost unheard of! we've been to myrtle a number of times in august with 2 different 5th wheels, never had a rig with one a/c unit that kept it much cooler than 80, unless we got lucky with a site that had a couple trees for shade.

RE: Burglarized

We park ours at home and it was burglarized last october right in our driveway. The thiefs did us a favor and stole the cheapo home theatre but then came thru one of our houses windows and ransacked our home. Dumb punks stole my wifes cellphone and used it to call for a ride so now their doing 5-7 for a class b felony(they stole weapons). Anyway, too little too late we ended up installing an alarm system in our home and as a supplement to that system we leave a wireless motion detector on the kitchen table of the 5th wheel and its coded in the alarm system as its own active zone. If the door opens when its armed, our home alarm sounds and the police are called.

RE: This seem normal for 13.5K A/C in 5er?

Weve got one 15k on our 34' montana and its no where near adequate, not even close! Im adding a second low profile ac over the bedroom with its own dedicated power cord that'll be stowed in the underbelly. That way If Im at a campsite with only a 20 amp service I can still sleep in a cool bedroom. That opens up some nice wooded sites for us that were previously inaccessable.

RE: tornado rotary tank rinser

A buddy and I both installed tornado rinsers in our 5th wheels when new. They work great but last yr my buddys backflow preventer cracked and caused it to leak when flushing, he replaced it and its been fine since. Second trip out this year and mines got the same leak, I have yet to tear the underbelly off to verify but it only leaks when Im rinsing so Im certain its some sort of issue with the tornado.

RE: Heavy 5th Wheels

I dont know how many of you guys have ever seen a Royals International, but they are $200k heavy beasts! Id never think of hauling one with a HD pickup truck. The buyers of these are surely into MDT territory. I guess I look at it this way, if you can afford to buy a trailer of this caliber, you can certainly afford the right truck to pull it.

RE: Towing in Canada

About 5 years ago in quebec I saw a mid 1980's dodge colt towing 2 snowmobile trailers in tandem with 4 snowmobiles on them. Not quite the right tow vehicle..It looked like a death trap to me, but Im told it was legal.
